For 4 to 5mm knitting needles choose 8ply wool

For 5 to 6mm knitting needles choose 16ply wool

If selecting knitting needles for children to learn to knit with, we recommend 6mm knitting needles with 16ply wool, stitches are nice and visable and the knitting grows nice and quickly.

Project Idea: Child’s First Scarf (for any beginner knitter)

Use 6mm knitting needles and 16ply wool, you will probably want at least 3 ball of wool, but as many needed for desired scarf length.

Don’t start with by casting on too many stiches, try 18 or 20 for a skinny scarf (good option if you want to wrap it around the neck) or up to 25 for a chunky scarf, it wont look like much for the first couple of rows, but it will stretch out after few rows. Knit each row until your scarf is the length you want.
